Day two: cite soleil (city of sun)

City of sun it was. Today was a lovely day jam packed full of adventure. Luckily I got better sleep last night. Our first night the resident roosters decided to battle it out at one am. Then two. Then two thirty. And continued well into sunrise. I'm not kidding.
Thankfully I found my earplugs last night and slept much better! A tired body helped that as we'll.

We started our day in cite soleil a clinic we visited 6 months ago.... But last time. It was a tent! They were working on the new church and today we saw it! The church has been completed and that's where we  worked this time. It is amazing and inspiring to see the growth and development that continues 4years after the earthquake.

We saw lots of kids today. Coughs. Tummyaches. Fevers. Gave out Pedialyte and ibuprofen to so many. Antibiotics and de worming meds. A couple ivs for very dehydrated patients. And vitamins to everyone.
I let several play with my phone and take selfies. It's adorable. They love seeing themselves and always start laughing. It's great.
A few notable visits today at the clinic... A guy has a broken ulna (arm) from February and it is slowly healing. Dislocated though. And all he has is an ace wrap on it. So crazy. Can you imagine how it must hurt!? He did Not even have ibuprofen to take.
Another unusual case... A child with a piece of chalk in his nose. Yup. Kids are kids everywhere. Luckily a few forceful blows and I was holding a snotty piece of chalk in my (gloved) hand.

All day dr ende remained at the fixed clinic in cabaret and continues perfong and teaching ultrasound. It was fun to pop in this afternoon and watch. Ultrasound is so cool!!

After clinic we went to two different orphanages and took them first aid kits. Explained how to check temperatures and how to give  the ibuprofen & Tylenol to the kids. And of course gave the kids candy.  The first orphanage Patrick (our adventurous 16yr old) played a riveting game of soccer and I laughed along with some beautiful girls.
This smile. I can't get over how much this girl affected me. Such radiant joy.
A girl. An orphan at that. Just exuding this love.

The second orphanage had almost forty children and it was a tiny cement structure with a couple rooms. We went inside and met the children then quickly humbled when they told us--- we have nothing to offer you but our prayers. Then forty beautiful children started to pray for us. It was so powerful. These kids are so grateful for the roof over their head, but let me tell  you--- that roof is thin. And has holes in it. And if it was a big storm they were gonna get wet. They smiled and hugged us and were thankful for their kit. Tonight we came back and loaded up a suitcase full of clothes and toys and shoes we will have dr vlayd take back later. They are auch beautiful people.

We made sure tonight to be up on the roof for the sunset... And it was glorious. It's nice to sit up there with an amazing view and think back on the day.

The sunset just screams to me the glory of The Lord. so stunning. So breathtaking. Simple reminder of Jesus great wide vast huge love for all of his children.
More stories and photos to come I'm sure but For now.... Goodnight.
