lets get an update..

I realized today I haven't done a home update in a while... and boy. A lot has changed!
We have almost successfully painted EVERY WALL in the house.
almost.

Today we started on the kitchen! Our hope is to be putting in hardwood floors in the kitchen in the next two weeks! So we wanted to get the paint on the walls before the floors go in.

In order to save money... because hello. We need every penny we can get... we took our leftover gray paint from the bathroom (because there was a lot of it) and found a quart of white paint in the basement (its really old. oh well).
We dumped the white paint in, mixed it up, and went with it.

Here are two pics that don't really show you much, but we got all the trim cut in today.

::don't you love the pink tile?! yeah... its going to be painted in the coming months::

That shelf. ohhhh that shelf. There are 4 screwed in all over the house.
They add character, and without a crowbar and the desire to rebuild the walls, we are going to have to keep them. So the one in the kitchen I am going to paint white and use it to display vases and my cake stand, and pretty bowls. That sort of thing. I mean if you can't get rid of it, might as well make it practical!

So here is the view from the kitchen. In the picture the paint looks a bit brighter than in real life. I'm having second thoughts on the paint, but I have a feeling once we get our brown couch, dark blue/brown rug, and our very dark bookshelves in here its going to look really great.

Here is what will be the library...
Library again... oh that window. We have amazing blooming azaleas in the back. And get such great sunlight in this room!

So. I had a few more pictures. We have painted our bedroom! Its call wheat bread. Its a lovely brown/grey/beige----> greige.

We really like it. Its a very very neutral color compared to our bright living room!
Anyway, the pictures. They apparently are lost in e-mail land so I will have to work on that.

Anyway---
anyone have any idea what the heck this might be?
Definitely grew from a bulb.
Its also pretty tall- despite the picture.

Okay, I can't leave my weekend without posting the following picture.
One of the major reasons we are staying local is because the fantastic amazing group of friends we have here. It took a little time, but we all found each other.
Friday night we spontanesously spent time on Esta's front porch enjoying pimento cheese & rocking chairs. The perfect mountain evening.
Last night we all drove down to Brevard for a fun dinner and walk around town along with a trip to the 'dairy barn'. I could spend all day with these people. They are funny. Real. Loving. Goofy. Weird. Genuine. Good.
so good.

They have been so supportive and loving and encouraging during this time in our life and know that they aren't going anywhere. We have many more spontaneous front porch nights, trips to Brevard, dinners around a table, late nights of laughter, and feeding Millie ice cream so we can watch her spaz out.

Paul took this ridiculous selfie last night but I think it captures us perfectly.

I love you people! and am so thankful for the joy you all bring to my life!

  3. definitely hostas. they do good in shady to sunny areas. They grow from a bulb like thing but you can dig them up and split them if you want them to cover more areas. They will get bigger and spread as they years go on.
